Hi all,

I have a small question on which D/A to use in a project I am working
on.

I have to interface a DCX-MC300 Servo Motor Control Module to a
Laserdriver.

I have chosen the following layout for it.

PC Card Module

Compare/Direction Output(controls the switching between D/A and
Ground)

All to the right of the PC Card Module, except the Laser Driver will
be on a PCB.

I have chosen a CD74HCT4051for the multiplexor/switch. The switching
of this is going to be controlled by the Compare/Direction output from
the PC card (explanation of it is: "signal is driven by a high current
open collector driver and is suitable for direct connection to
optically isolated inputs commonly found on a servo amplifier. no
voltage will be present on these outpu signals unless pull-up
resistors are connected. when the axis is moving in the positive
direction the output will be pulled low. when the axis is moving in
the negative direction the open collector driver will be turned off
and the output will be pulled high.)

Once the analog voltage is passed through the multiplexor, it goes on
to modulate the laser by the laser driver.

So my question is to do with the D/A. All of the control and
programming will be handled by Labview. So there is no uprocessor to
control the D/A.

I am looking for a D/A that will do the job of converting the 8 bit
word to an analog voltage on receipt of the 8bit word.
I have found this DAC:
DAC8562: 5 Volt, Parallel Input Complete 12-Bit DAC Data Sheet (Rev.
A, 10/92)
http://www.analog.com/UploadedFiles/Data_Sheets/532871999dac8562.pdf
but am still looking...unfortunately it is 12 bit and i only have an 8
bit word..

could anyone suggest a component?
As always price and size is importand, but I am interested in all
components..
thanks in advance,
bernard
