Cycle counting in LTSpice?

Hi,

I've been running simulations were I'm looking for slight frequency
variations in the output for certain changes to the component values
in the circuit under test. Is there a way of getting LT to count the
number of cycles output during the course of say a 1uS portion of
transient analysis?
Thanks,

p.

Of course, SS does this automatically. You simply tell it how many
cycles to count, and when to start counting. It will display the average
frequency after each run. Load and run the ColpitsOsc.sss example and
note the output in the report window at the bottom of the main window.
Its set up in the Trans set-up dialogue.

Oh... I have now placed an mp3 track of my music on my website

PSpice can do it. It can also calculate the frequency versus a
parameter (component) variation.

Very helpful, I'm sure.

I would have come at it from the other direction had it not been an
oscillator I'm simulating. I could have used the AC source properties
to just generate say N=500,000 cycles, then read off the elapsed time
and worked it out from there. Can't do that in this case though, since
the AC source *is* the entire circuit under test!

If you're really looking for slight frequency variations I
think overlapping FFT's would be more sensitive. Try this
deck and then do an FFT of one of the traces. The 1% cap
change faithfully changes the frequency by .5%. Relating
to your recent post about integration, note this deck won't
run in PSpice because it's stuck on Gear integration and Gear
isn't accurate enough to make the demonstration as useful.

Cripes! Just when I think I'm getting to grips with LT., I discover a
new facet of this innovative, feature-rich, market-leading simulation
package. Thanks, Mike!

Well... Hmm... Jazz... Not bad! It'd work in a club/bar/restaurant
or even the "bigginning" of a TV series :) or movie... I guess that
means it's good if it's that versatile. Glad you gave it a
definitive ending and not a fade out.

What did the old begining sound like? Or is New Biggining a town? I
suppose "bigginning" could refer to trying to pick up fat chicks,
too :) Nah, that would be "bigguning".

I put it on my mp3 player's current play list up there with Judas
Priest, Segovia, Bach,... I'll see how it holds up to the test of
time. Slight chance that I'll think it's one movement repeated too
often. Dunno.

Nah. It's not monotonous at all. I think it'll stay on the

Well... Hmm... Jazz... Not bad!
My strongest influence is Steely Dan. I would probably class it as
"jazz-rock/pop"

I do my stuff "live", i.e. midi file backing with guitar lead (and
vocals) in err.. real-time, so they need to have proper endings.

What did the old begining sound like? Or is New Biggining a town? I
suppose "bigginning" could refer to trying to pick up fat chicks,

It was the first name that came into my head. For some reason I imagined
the end of a film where the hero and heroine go off into the sunset to
start their new part of the rest of their lives.

I put it on my mp3 player's current play list up there with Judas
Priest, Segovia, Bach,... I'll see how it holds up to the test of

I am always on a quandary as to how to finally structure some pieces.
The issue is that many can't seem to take more than the one drum thump
thump endless loop disco err... music. At times I have deliberately
simplified things a little to make it more accessible.

Thanks. What's the release date for the album?
Well... I am completely re-doing some stuff I have on an 8 track
analogue cassette to all digital, so it may be a little while.

"NewBiggining - a Tribute to Spelling" ;) Who is Spelling? Never
heard of him.
Not sure how that er..typo... crept in. I have now corrected it.
