CTX1765 Monitor Problems.

G'Day .....

I have a dodgy 17" CTX 1765 Monitor that no seems to be able to fix.

Monitor has a 15 pin D connection as well as RGBHS, fault occurs using both
inputs. On startup, degauss makes every other monitor jump, and runs fine.

At odd times, from 30 minutes to a couple hours, the picture will flicker,
up and down about 20 mm, the go out of focus and collapse to an intense
point in the center of the screen. Turning it of for a second or 2 will
restore to thing to normal operation and the cycle starts again.

Taking it to a repair person does nothing, it stubbornly refuses to fail,
even wrapped the thing in blankets to heat it up, nothing ...... longest
time away was 4 weeks.

Resolution used on the beast is 1024x768 @ 32, both on Windows 2000 and
Mandrake.

It also fails on a FreeBSD server (command line only).

Anyone have any pointers ? This monitor is a good one, and I'd really like
to fix it.

Thanks

Braveheart

I think i have the Service manual in PDF?

The bright point in the centre of the screen puzzles me, (simultaneous Loss
of both Hor and Vert scan but with EHT present) but it does suggest a fault
around the scan coil plug/socket, maybe a bad solder joint. but I don't know
why it goes out of focus. If it was me I'd take the board right out and
investigate the solder side with a powerful magnifier and a bright light. It
seems that shaking it around as you take it to a repair shop is enough to
fix the joint temporarily but I'm surprised that a repair shop couldn't find
it in four weeks. ps don't use it in it's present condition as it will get
worse and damage the CRT.

Loss of HV, nothing to attract the electron beam to the 2nd anode,
beam becomes concentrated on the screen's center?

Have you taken it to a shop with the computer that it fails with, so
that combination can be tried?

I will be getting the thing back next week, and I'll check the actual
model. Win2k just ID's it as a CTX 1765.

The plan is to pull the main board and check / resolder what I can.

I have had it open, it is totally enclosed in metal shielding.
The big red warning stickers stating 75000 volts made me blink a few times,
been reading up on safety procedures on monitor repair.

Repairer did take one of the pc's as suggested, no fault found, I even had
him over for a couple hours, and it refused to fail ...... tech kinda looks
at me sideways when I visit him now.

Will let you know what happens

The CTX 1765GM is listed at http://rv6llh.rsuh.ru/shema.htm
where there are zipped schematics to download.
