I have a PC board design printed on paper
(the SOL terminal/computer from 1976) that I would like
to create a gerber file from.

Is there any process for creating a gerber file from a
scanned image?

Maybe with some help along the way?

thanks,

if the purpose to have some new boards made, can't you ask your boardhouse
to make films from the paper artwork? I guess they have the right tools for
that.

It might be that others will do that, but that it will
cost a lot more. I believe even in they do, I will
still need the drill pattern in gerber format. I presume
that the drill is computer controlled.

http://www.outputcity.com/ will scan films and produce Gerbers.

I haven't used them - just saw the link in a Protel mailing list.

Scan the paper into a bmp then use it as a backplain while you layout the
PCB in either a CAD program, Autocad or QuickCad do this, or in a pcb layout
program I think Eagle will do it.
