Crazy idea? Trying to repackage my notebook Battery.

Hi!


Apparently it has been done before, so it may not be that crazy after
all!

My notebook is a toshiba XDVD4100 the battery part number is

#PA2487U. The battery specifications is

US17670GR 4/3A 3.7 1300 66.8 16.9 38


So its a 3.7 volts 1300 mAh


Lithium Ion battery.


The question I have, is it possible to replace them with a lower mAh
lets say a 1200 instead of a 1300?

is it just a matter of replacing the individual cells/???

charging and can explode if used incorrectly. For this reason lithium
ion battery packs have protection electronics built in which monitor the
state of the battery and prevent overcharging or over discharging.

Repackaging the battery may not be as simple as it looks.

Why do you want to repackage it anyway?

QUestion. What if I replaced tne Lithium ion for Other rechargeable
batter with a similar ouput?? and have them charge via a external
battery charger? will that work??

You need to isolate the individual cells, and then charge them at an
appropriate, but NOT higher charge rate. My toshiba had sony
batteries in its battery pack which had their mA/Hr rating declared on
the individual cells. Yours may not, but there is a set rate for a
given cell. Likely only a tenth of an amp or so.

Anyway, charging each cell up individually will top off all cells
evenly, and will expose any "bad" cells for easy replacement.
