hi, our digital cordless phone seems to be playing up. basically it will not
hold it's charge. tried new batteries and charging it from another
basestation but this does not seem to help. it seems to take an age to
charge compaired to the other handset and when it seems fully charged this
can be lost in minutes when the set is used. any assistance on a fix thx ?

thanks have previously done this but does not cure.

Might not help - but at least try cleaning the contacts where the phone
meets with the charger base. Try to make sure there's good physical
contact
between them.

It is very important to mention the make and model of the phone, in case
there are any specifics that can be mentioned.

The most common cause of your description is the requirement of new
batteries. The digital and 2.4 GH phones use more battery power, and thus
when the batteries have some age and use on them, they will not be adequate.

Install the new batteries, and let it do the first charge for about 12
hours. After that the phone should work very well. If not, then it will have
to be serviced, or replaced. The lifespan of these batteries is usually
about 2 to 3 years in these phones. Sometimes one can be lucky, and get
about 4 to 5 years out of them, but rarely.

We found that it is very rare that the charging circuits go defective. Keep
the contacts between the handset and the charger to be clean. Most of the
defects in these phones, are from the users dropping them, handling them
with food on their hands, and spilling liquids on them.

Thanks for your advice. The make and model is an Ascom Avena 233 DECT phone.
I'm pretty sure that the problem is not with the batteries as I have
recently changed them (a month or so ago) and still the problem occours. I
have also made sure the connections are clean etc. Looks like I'll have to
replace the thing.
