Contact Tarnish Help

Speaking of tarnishing, the mode switch fingers in my old rca vcr
(used as a tuner only) tend to turn black after about a year or so.

When this happens it will try to unload a non-existent tape and then
shuts off. After cleaning the mode switch fingers it works fine
thereafter for another year.

What would be a good recommendation on some type of oil or grease to
stop the silver from tarnishing completely black and yet maintaining
a good contact?

.... I worked hard to attach the electrodes to it.

Try the Caig website. They have various products which are very good
and highly recommended. The plain old DeOxit D5 spray is used by most
people and I find it to be very good with long lasting results - enough
so to where I've given up on any other type of sprays. The 'pump' spray
version isn't as effective and I wouldn't recommend it.
Some of the other products they have may give better results on silver
contacts.
