The connection to your vcr should have both video and audio connectors. The
audio connection can be connected directly to your stereo, or tapped in with
a Y-connector. If the sound jack is mono, you can split it to both right &
left audio channels on your stereo with a Y-connector. If you need help,
ask the guys at Radio Shack how to do this.

I go from the TV to the Cable box and then piggy back from the cable box to
the stereo. It works good

You state that your tele does not have outputs for audio, the manufacturer
did not design your particular set with that feature and it will be un-safe
for you to attempt doing so. Follow the tips, either run it off the vcr or
catv box to your stereo or upgrade to a more expensive tele that has the
features already safely designed into it.

It is best and easier to take the audio from the VCR, and if your TV has no
sockets, unless you want to risk death from the EHT supply by opening up the
set - and I'm not joking - it's going to be the only way.

If it's a NICAM VCR the sound quality will be a better than from a TV with
audio output sockets too because the signal will have only been through one
set of electronics instead of two.

If there are no separate audio jacks or phono (RCA) sockets on your VCR, you
can take the audio output from the SCART socket. Appropriate leads with a
SCART plug on one end and phono plugs on the other can be bought from
accessories shops.

Noah fence, but when I was a GPO Telephone Engineer many years ago, a tele
was a phone. A TV set over here at least has always been a telly. How times
change.

Unsafe, yes. With no audio sockets on your TV, you'd have to take the back
off and try to tap on inside somewhere. This means you'll need the Service
Manual and sufficient knowledge not to get electrocuted by the EHT supply
which is usually 30kV plus! - and it's still there for an hour or so after
you've turned the set off, stored in the capacitor formed by the inner and
outer conductive coatings of the CRT.

I got a belt once and woke up badly bruised on the opposite side of the
room. I had the sense to keep one hand in my pocket so I only got a belt
from one hand to earth. If I'd got it from one hand to the other it would
have stopped my heart and I wouldn't be sitting here now. That's what I
meant by "and I'm not joking" in my previous reply.

Straight on Nemo, That's exactly what we've been trying to tell the flippin
bloke, it UNSAFE to atempt this modification. Buy a flippin tele that's
designed with these features already included.
BTW I remember when the telle was a ring-up device having "Ring & Tip"
connections, Eh; & one was lucky to get use of it because of all the others
on the local "Party Line". However, it was a way to get the neighbourhood
news around in a flippin hurry, just had to listen in.. Cheers

If your present VCR doesn't have stereo audio outputs, buy a new one. A
hi-fi stereo VCR is VERY cheap right now and will give better sound than
your TV.
