Connecting idc 2x10 to breadboard

Hi Folks,

I need to connect 2x10 idc socket through to breadboard (I assume a
1x20 header).

Anybody know the easiest way to do this? I assume soldering 1x20
ribbon is going to be tooooo tricky.

I usually terminate the ribbon cables headed to breadboards with an IDC
DIP pin header. Those have the right spacing to reach across the gap
between the two parallel breadboard rows. Either make a special cable
for breadboarding or make an adapter for the 2x10 to DIP.

I'd pass on a part number but I still have a bunch of these left over
from older projects and haven't needed to look it up for a while...

You don't say what kind of breadboard. If it's like solder-in
breadboard, it's possible, albeit quite tedious to solder-in
ribbon cable. Rich's idea of a DIP plug for that is good -
just solder-in a socket. This will also work with the plug-
in type (which I forget the name of - ProtoBoard?), but I've
been known to split the end inch or so of the ribbon cable,
strip about 3/16" (5mm) from each lead, tin it, and plug
the tinned wire right into the protoboard. A tweezer helps
here, and some patience. Actual IDC connectors would be
probably overkill, but they work good in final designs.

BTW: The type of board is 'plug-in' - I hadn't realised there was any
other type.

I've got plenty of ideas now. It's confirmed that there's no 'off the
shelf' solution here and I need to get the iron dirty.

No, a IDC dip plug like someone previously mentioned is an
"off the shelf" non-solder solution.
