Connecting Headphones to RCA OUTPUTS?

Is there any easy way to connect headphones to vcrs without
headphone outputs, IOW, to the RCA L/R audio outputs?
Without setting fire to something, that is.

You would have to use a power amplifier (low power ~ 150mW...) because the
RCA output just isn't designed to to that... You can buy an IC that will do
what you want

Thanx Jeff! Guess it's time to take a ride down to Radio
Shack n'see if they have something available. I was mostly
worried about RCA outs having _too much_ voltage/current for
phones--glad to hear it's the reverse. Great.

Try some of the "wireless" headphone designed specifically for that purpose.
They take a line level input and convert it to either RF or IR signals that
the headset pickups, amplifies, and introduces into your ears.

Thanx Art, but as a matter of fact, looked at a few of these
on the web (eventually did buy a decent Sennheiser to use
only for my cd player and stereo system) but all I found
used a pin headphone jack on the charging unit to plug into
the output from the electronic equipment desired--IOW, just
what I lack on my tv and vcrs. I suppose, if I understand
what you're saying, then is all I should need maybe is a
proper adaptor to connect the female L/R RCA output jacks on
tv or vcr to the male pin plug on the charger unit ... huh?
Or do I have the voltage/current spec mismatch backwards.
(Also, then there's only the volume adjust on the headphones
to control any voltage/current mismatch, which sounds ok I
guess, right?) If so, will have to talk to Radioshack guys
to find if such is available--I don't readily see any such
type of adaptor at the RS web site, but their search engine

Cheaper/easier solution:

Buy a set of amplified speakers for a computer (a few bucks).
Get one with headphone jack on it.
Get an RCA-to-MiniPhone adapter.
Plug the amp's input cable into the adapter.
Plug the adapter into the VCR.

First, I from your post, I cannot tell if the input to the wireless
headphones is 1/8" male or 1/8" female. If it's 1/8" female, an adapter is
widely available. It is sold as a 1/8" to RCA cable - often used (or
marketed) to connect a portable device (ie CD player, MP3 player) to a home
stereo system. The 1/8" connector is used to connect to the CD player and
the RCA to the amplifier. In your case, the 1/8" connector connects to the
input of the headphones and the RCA to the amplifier. When you go to the
store, just ask for a cable to connect your portable device to the
amplifier. (Cables are bi-directional, so 'sound' can 'flow' from A to B
and also from B to A).

If the input to the wireless headphones is male, you will have to do some
searching for approprate connectors. (None come to mind right now) It may
take a combination of a few different connectors.

The volume control of the headphones does not control the input
voltage/current. The controls on the headphones only change 'stuff' that's
in the headphones. Since the wires are not connected to the headphones,
this control doesn't affect the input signal. It does affect the volume
though, so you would use these to control the volume.You should be fine with
the voltage/current ratings however the headphones might have a low input
impedance which would load the VCR(was it?). But this shouldn't be too big
of a problem.

If you already own a pair of wireless headphones, use them as you don't have
to worry about being teathered to the equpment.
