Alps? Clarostat? But probably only in high volumes--whatever you
want at a high enough volume or price. Seems like mechanical
potentiometers are going the way of the buggy whip. (Used only by
sadists/masochists??) Both trimmer front-panel pots are becoming more
and more rare in the equipment I see.

I was hoping someone else would answer, but...

My experience is the same as Tom's; I've searched for these things from many
distributors, but no luck. There appear to be three choices: don't use
them, or buy them by the tens of thousands, or buy them at incredibly
inflated prices for a very limited choice of styles and values from
unreliable small-quantity suppliers like Stew-Mac.

Well, I found these....

and then single resistors could be soldered inbetween each lug and it could
act like a variable resistor. But geez, they are damn expensive and then
with resistors...

I wanted to use like 6 of these for project and that's like 30 dollars.
