Computer cases and caps

Hi,
I have two completley unrelated questions for you al... :)

1) Is there anywhere in Sydney where I can get enclosures for my computer
based circuits? I want these boxes to be able to slide into the same slot as
the CD-ROM drive. I've looked around a little bit, but haven't found
anything suitable. (Basically I want a box the same size as a cdrom drive.)

2)Does anyone know where I can get 3300uF 50V capacitors in the Sydney area?
The closest I can find them is at Altronics. Unfortunately, the shipping
cost is the same as the part itself! :(

Thanks in advance
Andrew Howard

What kind of cap?? Electrolytic? Radial or Axial?? WES Components
(Ashfield) stock 3300uF 63V "Snap-In" PCB mounting electro's - $4.95.
Farnell (Chester Hill) have the same things, or a 3300uF 50V, but they're
slightly more expensive.

Everyone will charge you at least $5 p&h (WES $5.50 incl GST, Farnell $8.50
+GST), unless you go and buy over the counter....

Hi,

For the case have you considered getting a dead CDROM drive and pulling
out the inards?

Most of them I have seen have a mostly reasonable metal outer casing
with plastic rear with the connectors and front which hold the door and
usually a couple of controls. I would guess that it shopuld not be too
hard to make up replacement front/rear panels (I have thought about
doing this myself, once I find a decent project ...)

Al died. And you have exceeded your quota of questions.

Havent noticed anyone flogging them.

Do you actually need a full enclosure ? The 5.25" bay kits
designed to mount 3.5" hard drives would be fine if you just
need the face plate and body that mounts in the bay.

You may be able to mount the smaller jiffy boxes etc in one if
you need more than just a pcb on standoffs on the metal plate.

The removable bay kits provide more of a structure.

You could gut a dead cdrom drive, but
the face plate wouldnt be that great.

From most pc shops you could buy a removable hard drive bay 5 1/4 inch, that
has a metal case on the inside that is easy removed and locake if required
for about $30, also has the advantage of having all the power cables etc
accesable from the inside compartment

That was my first idea, but then I realised that I can't get a decent supply
(eg. 0) of things like that. I don't know many people who are into computers
or electronics.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I meant electrolytic, the ones with the both the leads at one end.
Sorry about the lack of that info.

Plenty on ebay for peanuts.
