Hello all,

Can anyone ID the component in the picture with the marking FD218-3055??
Or is there an alternative replacement for the device.

It is part of a battery charging circuit. As you can see the one on the
left popped it top and let the smoke out.

Thanks,

Mouser has them for $.0.28 or something but then there is the minimum
purchase.

Digi-Key has them for US$0.70 quantity 1.

If you're in the US or Canada, there is a little gem buried in
Digi-Key's terms and conditions. From
http://dkc1.digikey.com/us/en/mkt/Terms.html :

---
II. Conditions of Order
6. Shipping Charges
[...] When a check or money order accompanies your order, Digi-Key
pays all shipping and insurance (our choice for method of shipping)
to all addresses in the U.S. and Canada.
---

If you don't have checks anymore, you can get money orders at the post
office ($1.25) or Wal-Mart ($0.60).

As far as I can tell, Mouser doesn't have a similar offer.

Haven't looked at the RAT Shack but that would most likely be a wasted
effort.

Agreed. It might be on their Web site; it lists lots of parts that they
are happy to ship you but that don't exist in their stores. If you're
willing to wait for shipping, you can usually get a better deal from
Digi-Key, Mouser, etc.

Standard disclaimers apply: I don't get money or other consideration
from any companies mentioned.

It's a 3055 power fet. Do not confuse it with a 2N3055, which is a
bipolar transistor.

Probably a Fairchild NDT3055. Remember to clear whatever problem popped
it in the first place, or buy a bag of 'em.

Thanks, now I just need to find a cheap source for a couple or three.
It may not be worth my time. I was only considering the challenge for the
fun of it.

eBay has them for $5 plus $10 shipping. LOL What a joke.
Mouser has them for $.0.28 or something but then there is the minimum

Thanks for the quick response and have a good weekend.

I would go with a bag of them, you can always find projects to do.

Matt,

Thanks for the info. Interesting terms that Digikey has. It is tempting.
But I have decided that I have better things to do with my time.

I could, as suggested, buy a bag full but then what would I do with a '1'
short bag full??

BTW I do like your disclaimer. LOL
