Hi all, i am doing a memory upgrade to a compaq presario 2240.It is going
from 32meg to 128meg, but in bios it only shows up as 48meg.If i put a
256meg stick in it only shows 80meg.
What am i doing wrong.I have updated the bios.
Any suggestions.
Cheers

Some types of DRAM are not recognised by the hardware on some PCs. e.g.
there may be a limit on how many slots can be used at once and the size
of any particular item.

Try two 64s

And as I found out yesterday, some mix of manufactures
spec DRAM will not work together. I had to purchase in
the end 2 x new manufacture and throw the older Apacer
DRAM out. New DRAM is still 256MB UNB PC133 CL3 type.

Grahame.

Yes well as an example the manual on my old 430TX motherboard says "don't
use 64Mbit cell RAM in slot 3" and "maximum memory 256MB". I remember
other manuals said things like the number of chips on the DIMM module
must not exceed a certain amount.
