Compaq LTE display disassembly

Hi. I have a defective display on an old Compaq LTE 5300, and would like to
"autopsy" it without damaging the plastic case. Anyone have any experience
with this?

I got an answer elsewhere.

In case anyone else need this info, there are four rubber seals on the
corners, covering screws. Once the screws are out, gently pry apart starting
at a bottom corner.

Those seals blend in so well I didn't notice them.

PS: Is it possible this problem could be a component inside the display case
rather than the screen itself?

I've already determined that the problem is not in the motherboard by
substituting a display from another laptop.

Thats really an odd fault..

I suspect the driver circuitry may be bad rather than the display
matrix itself, but usually this results in dead columns/rows not a
diagonal stripe like that.

Looks like a cracked LCD. If you turn off the computer and look at the
display under a light, do you still see the diagonal line? And if you
hold the top corners and gently twist the display do you see "waves"
at that diagonal line? If one or both of these conditions are true,
it's a cracked LCD.
