Hi, I have an old Commodore monitor tha I've been using as a tv monitor for
years. Pressed the power button the other day and all I get is a very dark
red picture wich I cant seem to get any better with any ajustment. Any tips
or schematics ? Commodore Model #1702
Thanks.

Try com.sys.cbm newsgroup since there are Commodore experts there. And
whatever you do, try to save that monitor, it's a very good monitor
despite its age.

No schematics here. But you might want to try adjusting the gun cutoffs
and/or drives, located on the picture tube neck.

There is a procedure known as a grey-scale balance that might clear
things up a little.

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=grayscale+balance+television+adjustment+procedure&hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&safe=off&selm=19970216.183702.3454.0.awh%40juno.com&rnum=2

I believe the proceedure is outlined in the above document.

If that fails, you might want to try and "boost" the picture tube.
There are plans available somewhere to build your own "booster".

This procedure can often be like a last-ditch effort to breathe life
back into a picture tube. Sometimes it works beautifully and the
picture is like new.

Other times.....the smoke gets out the picture tube's days are over.

Try some google searches on your monitor's model number. Hit
dogpile.com and teoma.com as well. You never know what you can turn up
sometimes.

Good luck.
