Have you heard of the new revolutionary Cold Heat soldering iron? Some people are hyping it so much you'd think that regular irons will be obsolete. I have use a Cold Heat and I can tell you firsthand it stinks. What you do is put your wire between the fork-shaped tip and a current passes through to heat it up in seconds. I can only imagine how many cells this thing will go through in a month. Anyway, then you melt your solder. I found the contact to be difficult to make and the solder would tend to glob up on the tip and not make the connection. Also, you can forget about tube chassis work, or making any connections larger than half a millimeter for that matter. Simply put, it is a neat gimmick, but it's not practical for real use.
