Have a GE TV, Model# 19GT319, Chassis# CTC185A,
The Closed Captioning is permanetly on,can't be turned off from "Menu"
button, and the remote is lost forever, can this be turned off??, have 2 or
3 "Universal remotes", that do work ALL functions, but still won't turn off
the CC, Anyone got any suggestions???
Thanx in Advance

You should be able to turn off the captioning
in the Menu by toggleing the front controls.
If you cannot then very possible the eeprom is
corrupted ,this would require diagnoses by a Tech.

kip

You dont need the remote to do this.

I know these CTC185A chassis, Press menu button on the tv, use your
remote press three (that is number shown 3 next to "Screen" and it
will list few items including CC. Press that number for CC and turn
it off. For front panel buttons, press menu button to diaplay first
level menu. Channel buttons moves selections down and up. Volume
buttons changes setting or selects submenus.

RCA does sell RCA universal remotes (found in walmarts, etc). All in
One works 100% also. This what I did with my 19" CTC185 chassis with
an all in one remote.

Cheers,

That won't work if the tv set has the parental lock turned on that locks out
the menu button on the front of the tv set.

Simple fix is to buy a GE/RCA brand universal remote control that has the
buttons needed. They are cheap and readily available.
