cheap wireless modem/transmitter modules

A while ago there was some discussion about some very cheap rf
transmitter/reciever modules that were capable of 1200/9600bps comms. I
would really appreciate it if someone could give me that link again. I have
check google archives but I can only seem to turn up link for modules that
require you to do the encoding.

How much is CHEAP Andy?

$50? $200?

Have you got the latest SC? There is an interesting little project in it,
I'm really surprised that they hadn't published anything like it sooner. Of
course if you're after something a little bit special with all the relevent
ticks & stamps then probably the best value radio modems I've seen are the
Aerocomm ones from Telelink... choice of 900MHz & 2.4GHz, intelligent,
addressable. I was going to get some but was waiting to here whether the
higher power 900MHz modules had hit the shores yet. If you find out let me
know.

have a look at www.radiomodules.net but if you want pricing I think you'd
have to call Jack at Telelink.

James

I just used some units in a project from Orbit Communications. Not
cheap at $400+ each, but they are transparent no-setup RS-232
interface which suited our specs. Error free at marginal range which
is really nice. Orbit supposedly have just bought out a new version
designed by them, cheaper, lower power consumption, more output power
etc.

We originally tried some RS-232 units from ICP Electronics, but these
supposedly professional commercial POS units did not have the internal
antenna cable connected on the PCB correctly, resulting in 0.5m range
with errors, and we wasted a lot of time debugging their rubbish. Tech
support was useless. Fixing that gave barely 50m range WITH errors.
Will never buy anything from ICP Electronics again... </end winge!>

Surplus guys like Oatley have various CHEAP RF modules available.
Great for one-off's, not so good for production or something you need
in a few years time.

Dave :)

There's:
http://www.maxstream.net/products_24xstream.html
http://www.radiotronix.com/
I recall the latter was a less expensive product. There's a crowd over in WA
who do this stuff too, but like you I can't find the link. :-(

Interested in bluetooth modules with range of 100m ?
around Aus$120 1MBps can have rs232 or usb interface if needed(seperate addon boards).

A mate of mine makes them.

He is in the process of getting a web page up.

I'll post a link to the docs later.
