Any cheap way to make a shortrange repeater/extender? Say rcv/trans on ch28,
or a localised ch8/38 or something?
Have a whole bunch of handhelds, mainly Uniden, that don't quite have enough
range to hold a small car cruise together after a set of lights or two.
500mw the lot.

Also have a Vertex Std 2500u in the car, 5w / 25w.

Any cheap way to create a localised repeater setup? say 10km range?

Easily get 5km from the car to the handhelds, it's the other way that is the
problem. And if I'm in the middle of two groups, how to go across
retransmitting the signal so it gets through to everyone?

That, or an easy way to jack up the Uniden radios power a bit? 1-2w would be
perfect, if it can be done.

Heuston, you have a problem.
One solution is to find external amps for the handies. Illegal and would
shorten battery life considerably.
It may be possible to fit better aerials on them, difficult but effective.
Turning the mobile into a repeater is also illegal and fraught with
(expensive) difficulties.
I'd suggest that if you REALLY need comms, flog the mobiles and buy higher
powered ones.
