I'm looking at getting a 66cm wide screen TV for my bedroom. I don't
want to spend much more than $500. Are there any other TVs in that price
other than the Dick Smith 'DSE' branded one?

thanks!

walk into any dept. store. don't take the price at face value and remove
10% . that's about best price .

You might want to look at this from Aldi - above your budget, but the
feature set it pretty impressing, and their stuff seems to be surprisingly
decent. I'm not sure if the SCART input offers component/RGB or not.

Tevion 66cm 100Hz Widescreen 16:9 TV

16:9 widescreen aspect . 100Hz digital scanning for a flicker free image .
superflat picture tube . teletext . child lock . S-Video . scart and AV
inputs . AV stereo . dynamic bass boost function . 5 band graphic equaliser
with preset sound modes . multilingual OSD . 4 picture modes . European
design and quality . remote control.

$ 599

Try Toys 'R Us, Target, K-Mart and Big W for super Cheap TV and audio
gear. Not quite Sony quality, but I reckon better VFM.

My apologies for the inconvenience
Blame it on the morons that spam the net

Doing warranty repairs for some TV's I must admit that 99% of the cheap ones
are complete CRAP!
I do not know how much LG would cost, but this is the brand I recommend. In
my opinion it is best value for money today.

True, but many of the expensive ones are the same Chinese crap with very
expensive badges.
At least with the cheapies you don't have to worry about poor service
support, high repair costs, and lack of spares, you just throw them away and
buy a new one.
Far quicker and much less trouble.

In my price range I can get SANYO, SHARP and LG. Whats your opinion of Sharp
and Sanyo?

Hi,

I am not getting much of those in for repair. SHARP should be fine. I have
not seen many SHARP with flat screen, though.

Sharp havent given us any trouble. We use about 25 of the 68cm models
(CX68K5 and newer model CX68N5) (bought over the last 3 years) in
commercial applications where they are on about 12 hours a day.
Haven't had the slightest trouble with any of the sets. Are Malaysian
made if I remember correctly.

I would imagine that in domestic use you would get a very good life
span out of them and would have no hesitation in recomending sharp.
Of course the other brands you mention might be just as good - but I
havent had any experience with them.

Note that the models mentioned have stereo - but only through the AV
inputs. If you want a stereo tuner in the actual set - there is a
model also available with this for about $100 additional.

I have two RCA's from Big W (made by Thomson) and am very happy
with them.
