Ceramic capacitors - 27 with a Underscore. what does it mean

Hi,

I have a question. I have been reading and reading many web sites
regarding ceramic capacitors.. eg


270 numeric on a ceramic capacitor is suppose to mean 27 follow by a
single 0 = 27 pF.

however,


what does a 27 with a _ " underscore " underneath the number is
suppose to mean?

Also, from what I have read so far, and I am trying to read as much as
possible... how can you tell the VOLTAGE rating of the above mentioned
capacitor.?



I dont think its color coded, as the ceramic capacitor I am talking
about is a single brown solid colour.


Any help on this is highly appreciated.

Most likely this is a 27 pico farad capacitor. The underscore is meant to
make it clear which side is the top and which side is the bottom. That is,
the numbers 6 and 9 are extremely easy to get confused without knowing which
way to read it. The line will appear on the bottom of the number. As you
have surely noticed by now not all capacitors follow the proper standards
for labeling.

If it isn't printed on the body... Generally speaking you can't, although
voltages like 50V are pretty standard for ordinary ceramic capacitors. If
the capacitance isn't extremely large, and the package is reasonably sized
then it is probably a fairly good bet it is rated for at least 50V.
