cell phone batteries specs for a moving robot, please

Hi !

I would like to know were can I find some specs about cell phone
batteries, that is, how much voltage they supply, weight, etc

My goal is to use a light weighted battery on a small moving device (a
little robot, maybe "brained" by a PIC), so weight is important.

I thought on cell phone batteries but is there another good (and
cheap) alternative ?

Actually, cell phone batteries are pretty high on the efficiency scale when
you compute how much power they store per unit weight. The only drawback is
that they tend to go flat when they sit around pretty quickly. But on the
upside, they are fast chargers. So it really depends on how you intend to use
your robot.
I have used all kinds of batteries in robots, and mostly depend on lead acid
gel cells because they are cheap and readily available. But I also let them
charge all night, so that is a pain. But I also have used cell phone batteries
in small robots with good effect. NiCads, on the other hand, have fine power
density but take too long to charge in many cases. NiMh are perhaps the best
overall for robots that see fairly continuous usage.

Most of the heavy duty type modern cell phone batteries run about 800 to
1100 ma/Hr, depending on the model type. The drawback you are going to find
with these batteries is that they are awful expensive. I had to replace the
battery in my Motorola V60c. The battery is the heavy duty one, and the
cost was about $90.00 US for the original type. After about a year or so,
they stop holding the charge with my phone. But, I am a heavy user, and
have to charge it more than once or twice a day. I am on it most of the day
for my work. Infact, I keep two batteries and rotate them. They are
supposed to have a life span of about 500 to 800 charge cycles with a
maximum life of about 3 years. I am doing more than 600 charge cycles per
year. The phone gives about 1.5 to 2 hours talk time on a full charge. The
battery however is very small and light. It is about 1/2 the size of a
credit card, and is about 2/3 of the width. If you were to use two of them
in parallel for a project, you would then have about 1600 to 2200 ma/Hr.
