cd player in car damages CDs

Hi all,

I've got a new car with a CD player. In the last 2 months, it has
damaged 2 CDs. By "damaged" I mean that in one place on one track it
consistently "skips".

Before I go trying to claim problems on warranty, I'd like feedback on
whether this behaviour is common, or even expected. (And are there
issues with keeping CDs in a hot car (but out of direct sunlight)?)

try cleanning the "problem" disc first and play it in another player, if the
problem exist on another player, its the disc otherwise its the car cd
player

Regards,
Can you see any damage on the CD's (scratches, marks etc) could just be
a dirty fingerprint from handleing the cd's in the car. if you do see
damage, take it back, but best of luck proving it was their player.

Cars can get very hot inside, i'd only keep copies in the car anyway.

Cleaning the disc does seem to help. (egg on face). Thanks.

The only way I could imagine the player damaging the disc is if some
mechanical part - or foreign object in the player was coming into
contact with the CD surface as it spun, or during the load/unload
process.

In which case there would be visible scratches

If it has damaged the CD in the same place on each disc (ie - the
error occurs at approximately the same playing time into the disc from
the start) then my money would be on something scraping it as it spun.

This is indeed a warranty matter - unless you have put something in
there that shouldnt be in there of course:)

The warranty may not cover damage to media - only the repair to the
player.

AS I recall - some of the PS2 units were prone to damaging discs that
were put in them, so this can happen.

CD's seem to cope well in hot cars, even burnt ones on cheap media.
