Hello,

I bought a replacement laser pickup assembly for my CD player. My new
laser head is a Sony KSS210A.

The PINs of the laser are short-circuited for protection during the
shipment.

Too hurry to install my new laser head .... I forgot to unsolder the 2
pins short-circuited .

After a couple hours of trying with no result ... my CD were not
working at all ... I checked the paper included in my package and I
foll0w the procedure ... unsolder the two pins of the LD.... shit!

QUESTION:

Do you think that I damaged my new laser head KSS210A?

Thanks a lot for the answer!

Freddy

I doubt it. The shorted pins are across the laser diode, so it wouldn't
have received any current at all with them shorted. However, you might
very well have damaged the current control circuit in the player that
drives the laser, as it would have been driving a direct short. Does it
play now that you've unsoldered the pins?
