I have a Sony cdp-d535 5 disc changer. It will be playing fine and then
the drawer will open and it will stop playing. Also when I put cd's in and
close the drawer it will open then close erratically then finally start to
play. I would like to replace the part that is causing this but need advice
on which part to replace.

May just be a dirty switch.

There are little key fingers that rotate around with the platter and
with the slide tray which press little contacts together or apart. It
is the contacts themselves which tend to get dusty or filmed over with
oils that cause erratic closure behaviour. The fix is simply to clear
the gunk away with a little strip of thick paper wetted in 99% alcohol
or similar. The big problem is in getting at the contacts. Sometimes
disassembly of the slide and platter is straightforward with only a
couple of screws to loosen and some snaps to carefully undo. It's not
too easy but not impossible for a DIY'er who isn't all thumbs. Just
put reference marks on anything that rotates or moves. Then put it all
back together so all the marks align again and it should work fine.
Naturally it's not a job for the faint of heart. So if in doubt see a
pro.
