Capacitor (Locating)

Hello Everybody,

I need at capacitor that is at least 16V and 330uF. I am not having much
luck finding one online. Can anyone refer me to a reliable website where I
could get the capacitor? It is for a pc motherboard. I am planning on
replacing an SMD Capacitor with a regular type capacitor (any thoughts on
this?).

Thanks ahead,

Shock:
Why not replace the smd cap with another smd cap? If there is enough
physical room you can install a radial lead (regular) cap instead. The
value of 330 uf @ 16 V is readily available from most electronics
suppliers.... including on-line from MCM, Dalbani, Electronix, etc. If a
16 V rating is not available you can sub a 25 V unit instead as long as
there is physical space.
Just moments ago on my Yahoo search engine I entered "electronics parts" and
in about 20 seconds I found the following supplier with the exact value you
specified.... 330uf @ 16V.
http://www.electronix.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/252_293/products_id/603
It probably took you longer to post your question on this newsgroup than it
took me to find the part with the help of Yahoo..... let your fingers do
the walking. Search first, post question second.

If you have the physical space you can use any cap you want, as long as the
value is close and the voltage rating is the same as the original, or
higher.

If you call around to any of the local electronic parts suppliers in your
area, you should be able to find this cap value. It is common. You can use a
25 Volt cap, if it will physically fit.

Many of the suppliers also handle surface mount parts as well. Some of the
big suppliers or electronics surplus dealers may have some ends and be able
to sell you a surface mount cap that will fit better than a standard size
one.

On the net, Digikey is a big supplier of these devices.

How about Rad Shack. This is just a basic common cap.

Cornholio:
Radio Shack does NOT carry the value of 330uf in any voltage.
On my Yahoo search engine I typed "electronics parts" and within 20 seconds
found the following on-line supplier of the 330uf @ 16V cap.

If a little intelligent searching is done, the internet can provide good
answers, but it will not happen without a little effort.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am going to replace the smd properly
with another smd chip cap. I am very new at this so I appreciate those who
helped out. I have found various suppliers online now due to your
assistance. There are some markings on my chip capacitor that I have not
been able to find online. The following is written on top of my chip cap.

1 4
330
6A

I took the 330 as being 330uF and I assume the 6A has something to do with 6
volts, but someone else told me the 1 4 could be 14v. That is why I
diagnosed that I would just put a 16v chip cap to be safe. Does anyone
recognize the 1st or 3rd lines in the above markings? If so, I would once
again greatly appreciate your help. Also, I am looking for references on
how to properly solder an SMD component, any tips would be appreciated as
well.

Thanks for being helpful,

Corey

Aren't message boards for discussing problems and learning from each other?
If your time is too valuable to read the post don't waste it.
