Canon MP2500/[BJC4100] stalling

My Canon MultiPass 2500 "stalls" while printing. A test page will start off
fine for about 2 inches and then it sounds like the belt is slipping. The
cartridge then parks itself and the page proceeds blank. Sometimes a few
more lines get printed.

This has happened in the past and always cleared after I cleaned around the
cartdrige rest area. I think this was probably coincidental.

Anyone know/remember what causes this and what the proper fix is?

I just replaced a few components [print head ribbon connector had shorted
out] and would like to get this working correctly again.

Answered my own question but any additional maintenance tips would be
welcomed.

I needed to add a bit of lubrication to the flat rail which the cartridge
holder rides on.

I knew it was simple, I'd just forgotten precisely where the magic had to be
applied.
