from spaceweather.com

2M labeled sunspots image

4M no labels sunspots image

Sunspot number: 65

4M is clear, sharp Sunspot number: 65 ???

3135 label - 2 sunspots/ groups

3136 label - 2 sunspots/ groups

R = K (10g + s) = 65 ?

what is a number of groups in the image ?

Relative sunspot number stays for what ?

I am interested to count raw number of sunspots, raw number of sunspot groups for the given image resolution.

Yes.

I do not know how they quantize a sunspot versus a hot photon emission.

Anthony,
latest solar image video from Japan.

I have counted 4 sunspots ( black spots) for the given resolution of this video

https://swc.nict.go.jp/data/latest/sdo/latest_512_HMIIF.mp4

They counted about 50 sunspots.
