Can I read caller ID from the modem?

I'd like to be able to have the computer at home pick up when I call
home from work. Otherwise, the answering machine will pick up in 4
rings. Some of us are too poor (or too cheap) to get dsl.

does your modem handle caller-id? not many do.
I used a special made hardware with caller-id and digit
decoding to allow access if the correct data modem was
calling.
