Can group recommend components suppliers?

Hi,

Can the group recommend an internet based supplier of small quantities
of electronic components for hobby/project use?

I don't generally need anything very exotic; most of my stuff is
audio frequency processing.

Thanks,

Francis.

Assuming that you're in the US, here's a sampling:

New componants suppliers: Digi-Key (www.digi-key.com), Mouser Electronics,
(www.mouser.com), Active Electronics (www.future-active.com), Jameco
(www.jameco.com) and Newark (www.newark.com). My favorites among these are
Digi-Key and Mouser, but each one has something that none of the other's
sells, so it's worth while looking around.

For surplus and used parts (these are often great places to get cabinets,
speakers, motors, knobs, power supplies, and big bags of often-used stuff,
but the componants are usually somone else's rejects so be careful) look
for: Marlin P Jones & Associates, for power supplies and motors
(www.mpja.com), Herbach & Rademan (www.herbach.com) for mechanical parts
(yea, that's not what you want, but what the heck), All Electronics
(www.allelectronics.com: both new and used parts, similar to MPJA but I
always end up going to MPJA for parts somehow). If you're into radio Dan's
(www.danssmallpartsandkits.net) has parts that you can't get anywhere else.

And finally if you don't think tube audio is exotic, there's Antique Radio
Supply (www.tubesandmore.com), plus a bunch of other tube vendors who can be
found by doing a search on "tube audio" and "parts".

Dozens! Here are the ones I regularly use for "small and surplus" orders:

www.alltronics.com
www.allelectronics.com
www.bgmicro.com
www.jameco.com
www.mpja.com

Of those, Jameco is probably the biggest.

For orders where I need quantity, or things the above don't stock, my top three are:

www.digi-key.com
www.mouser.com
www.newark.com

Thanks Tim for your very comprehensive reply. Mouser, in particular,
looks excellent..

Cheers, Francis.

www.futurlec.com and of course Ebay for all sorts of components for
real cheap. And there are a ton of audiophile suppliers out there.
Remember, "Google is your friend."

Yeah...... I know from recent postings that you've had some good luck
on eBay for parts, but I have to say that electronic components
transactions are pretty much the only eBay purchases I've ever made
that I've been scammed on. I've bought some tubes of 74HC series chips
that were 100% bad. I've bought surface-mount resistors that were all
either bad or mismarked (take your pick; if it says 1Kohm and it's
really 1 ohm, is it bad or mismarked? :).

I think the difficulty is that even given an honest seller, components
are much harder to test than finished goods. So I am kind of leery
about buying parts on eBay as a result.

Thanks to all of you for your replys. Many of these companies look
perfect for my needs.

Francis.

I have some components for sale & have listed them in Excel. Email me if you
would like a copy. You may be interested in the coils & chokes in the list.
