can a hd rear projectn tv beused as analog????

help!!

i'm in the market for a rear projection tv (all of which seem to be hdtv ready
now a days) and have heard many horror stories from people who have purchased
hdtv ready tv's but used them as analog & hate the picture...

i currently have digital cable tv and and will just be hooking it up
"analog-ly" to the new tv set.

any and all help..opinions..etc will be appreciated!!

Yes, however many customers describe the analog picture's quality as being
very grainy and of poor quality overall. Many cable suppliers have digital
boxes that have component as well as analog outputs on their equipment. This
allows the customer a choice as to what type of interconnect they actually
use rather than defaulting to the good old channel 3 or 4. Check with your
cable supplier and ask them just what hd ready boxes they supply with their
premium services.

I have Comcast Digital Cable and a Hitachi 51 inch 16:9 HDTV.

At first, I did not really like the picture because it stretched it out to
the 16:9. You have the option of changing the aspect ratio, but then you
have the gray bars on the side-- and I hear it will eventually cause some
perminate damage to the picture.

Also-- I have the HDTV cable package, which has like 10 HDTV channels, which
are amazing. The rest are regular analog for the lower channels or digital
for the upper.

Anyway, I love my HDTV. I am used to the stretching on the digital/analog
channels. I am using both outputs on my cable box... I am using the PrPbY
and the Coax/antenna in so I can use picture in picture and stuff. For the
non-digital lower channels, I usually switch to the antenna input because I
think it looks a little better, but for the HDTV and digital channels, I use
the PrPbY input.

I dont use the DVI input, which I hear is the "True" HDTV input.

If you have a good quality set, there should not be any problem. The
standard pictures may look a bit soft on it, compared to watching an HD
picture. The set is also line-doubled, therefore it will be very revealing
of the picture quality.

If you get an HDTV, you should have cable or sat service that can supply a
good quality digital cable box to feed the set.

In HD sets or any set, stick with the big name brands that are also in to
the industrial and broadcast TV markets as well.
