Bypassing standby circuit for testing purposes. TV NEC N-341

[Jim Lazzaro]

TV no power, no lights, nothing.
After internal inspection I have resoldered quite a few bad spots on
this TV and on powering it up I notice it goes in standby. There is no
button to press to switch it on, therefore I presume it must need its
handheld remote unit. I don't have it.
Is it possible and safe to bypass the circuitry of the standby
function so that I can test the television.

Any suggestion on how to would be appreciated.

No power button at all? I would get one of those $6 universal remotes and
see if that'll work. It'll come in handy for future repairs.

Hey boys,

The TV only has the main power button which when depressed it puts the
standby light on; there is no other button to switch the TV on; that
is why I assume that it can only be operated from a remote.
Pressing any other buttons has no effect.

On my European Thomson TV the power button on the remote only switches
the unit OFF, you can't switch he unit ON with the power button. You
have to press the OK button on the remote or one of the channel number
buttons to switch the set ON. Same thing for the actual power button
on the TV, it will just turn the unit on into standby mode.
Incredibly silly stuff.
