BY176 - What voltage drop should it have?

Greetings group.
Can i test a BY176 diode with the diode check on a multimeter?
Or should it have more than a 0.6 volt drop?

I have 2 of these in 2 Kriesler 59-01 ctv's that seem to be open.

Thanks,
Russell.

** That is a 15 kV, 2.5 mA diode string - there are 10 diodes or more
inside.

Try using a 12 volt supply with 10k ohm resistor in series to to
diode.

Trivial, but I thought I might add that the amount of current through the
diode will also affect the voltage drop across it.

Hi Russell,

My notes for the 59-01 say

Symptom - Line output transistor gets hot, low brightness and reduced
picture width.
Remedy - Replace D746 (BY127) in 2SD350 base-circuit. (Diode check ok with
multimeter).

Checking in the WES catalogue it says BY176 1,600V 2.5mA General Purpose
though I have seen several web sites that say this is a 15,000V 2.5mA
SI-Diode. I would strongly suggest you do not substitute this part!

Hope this helps.
