is there a way to build temporary fuse like substitute in the
case of blown fuse and no local source to get them ?

what is blown are Time delay 630mA 250v fuse(s)

and i want the safety of a fusible link but without hassle of
blowing lots of fuses

would a simple current limiting resistor appropriately chosen
work ?
or some simple circuit that detects current and adjusts
resistance in place of the fuse ?
thermistor , varistor etc .....

well, those are ideas that run through the couple of electronics
neurons i have :)

lots of people here know better than i ....

help and ideas appreciated,
robb

There is no better way in this case then to replace the fuse with the type
intended for that device.

You didn't say what the device is, so perhaps you could "get by" with a 1 A.
SB (slow blow) which are easy to find.

If you're just testing, use an incandescent lamp..
one that is rated for the voltage and aprox current of the circuit.
if there is a short, the lamp will absorb it and glow to normal
brightness to indicate it. current will be greatly reduced since the
element in the lamp increases resistance as it heats up.

My emergency fuse? take a bit of stranded wire, get on thin wire out,
and use it as fuse.

so Jamie,
you are talking about using the formula like the P= IV where i
pick a Watts nd Volt rating for a given bulb such that gives me
the anticipated Current

think i'll try/test that on another 5v regulator.

thanks for help,

** Buy a 630mA circuit breaker - fool.

Resets with a push button.

Looking for shorts don't help when it keeps reseting....
