BT fax

I have a BT paperjet 55 fax machine that appears to have a constant open
line. I have read the manual and tried the support line in it but this line
is no longer available.

I have found a service section on the machine but it requires a password.
does anyone know how to reset this fax or will I have a purchase a new one?

I've experienced hook-switch failures in Sharp machines. I assume you've
checked that....?

Yes, it appears ok when the power is first applied but then seems to have an
open line were I can hear myself taking into the handset.

This only seems to have happened when my phone line was disconnected by the
phone company, whether this has anything to do with it I can only guess.

I am going to disconnect the back up battery and try to reset it to see what
happens.

I disconnected the battery and now have a system error code 16, which
according to the manual is a system lockup. This may have been there before
but was not noticed as if you switch on and off then on again it does not
show.

it looks like I will either have to take a chance on phoning a ukŁ1.00 per
minute call line or replace the fax machine with something else. I won't buy
another BT one.
