These typewriter/word processor units are very sensitive to anything
blocking the path of the print carriage as it moves during the power on
initialization. Check to be sure nothing is blocking the print head's
movement even a little bit.
If the unit has been dropped or otherwise damaged, something in the printing
section has likely been knocked out of alignment and as a result the
printhead is unable to move. You may or may not be able to fix this. You'll
just have to look and see if you can find and correct any damage done.
