Braking picture tubes

I broke a picture tube at the end and it sounded like air was being sucked out. I foolishly did this in the basement. Now what? Did some kind of gas escape and go into the house? I vented out the place all day. What was the noise caused by? It was like a really loud whoosh sound. Air? What is in a picture tube anyway?

it traveled the other direction, in.

possibly a small amount of gas will leak out after the phosphor and getter
reacts with ther air that went in

I vented out the place all day.
you're safe.

sound. Air?
yes.

as close to nothing at all as the maker can get. In other words: a Vacuum.

if you had weighed it before and after puncturing it you'd see that now it's
got air in it it's heavier.

Bye.

No, something much more dangerous, you let the vacuum out.

The vacuum escaping.

An electron gun, a depleted getter, focusing electrodes, a shadow
mask, various phosphors, aquadag, and a vacuum.
