but I think circuits like Fig 3 are a bit obsolete, 200MHz RRIO op amps
aren't expensive anymore. I don't think it needs a feed-forward path,

A 2 GBPS bidirectional fiberoptic link that someone wants us to make.
PECL in and out. They have some gadget that moves around somehow and

Do you need a linear amp, or just want to switch rail-to-rail?

I'm doing the switch thing with GaN fets. It's a lot easier when you
don't have all that mosfet capacitance in your face.

bits or bytes?

data rates are usually expressed in bits.

Like an audio power amp more-or-less but with bandwidth out to 5 MHz or
so with a 50V P2P swing.

To provide up to say 5 watts into loads of somewhat unclear purpose and
characteristics so an output stage with immunity to second breakdown and
otherwise protected from destruction is good
