The transformer is to operate the thermostat and usually just switches
a relay or two...
24 VAC is chosen because the wiring small gauge, safe and doesn't
require an electrician.

2 leads still need to be hooked up to the 230 contactors.
Guessing not too wildly the total power output of the transformer is 40 watts (1.7 amps).
The transformer weighs 770 gms, 1 lb, 11 oz. There probably isn't much wiggle room on weight when it comes to a certain out put amp 230 - 24v transformer.
