BIOS QUESTION?

I have a Dell Latitude Cpi400R which was working fine with Windows98...I tried
to update to WindowsME and after it loaded everything and the computer was set
to re-start, it just shut down...when I turned on again, the Windows98 logo
shows up and then the following:
C:\>
"This version of Windows runs only on MS-DOS 8.0"
C:\>
and no indication of Windows ME at all.
I don't know the right commands to make it work, thou, I could use a Windows98
Startup disk but this thing does not have a diskette driver.
I will apreciate for anyone giving me some ideas at to what to do to get this
thing working...I went to Dell Support, but they bounced me around to a site
that didn't help me a bit.

Try booting with either the ME cd or the 98 cd - not sure if ME has a repair
function or not, but that may allow you to fix it if it does.

ME is not a good choice, most go to 2000 or XP after 98
but as the last said try booting on 98 CD to try to use repair option. I
think the BIOS version is not the problem.
At the c: prompt, try typeing ver to see what you do have

In article <20031020230828.12813.00000724@mb-m10.aol.com>,
l1angebleu@aol.com says...

If you type 'win', what happens? Can you get into safe mode?

Create one in any working Win98 PC.

You could try reinstalling Windows ME over your current installation.
