The new rule states that light bulbs must emit a minimum of 45 lumens per watt.

It will be illegal even to manufacture them.

Old bulbs that don’t meet the new standard will need to be phased out of production within 75 days, and the Department of Energy will work with manufacturers to ease the transition. Full enforcement of the rule will go into effect in July 2023, which is also the deadline for retailers to stop selling them.

Apparently the CFLs got caught up in this too and will also be phased out.

Both articles are written by a woman, so numbers, which mean absolutely nothing to them, may be inaccurate.

Fred\'s grasp of reality is pretty weak. English-speaking science journalist - not just the female ones - aren\'t all that numerate.

I had to live in the Netherlands for ten years before I noticed a Dutch science journalist getting some thing wrong. English language science journalists do it all the time - they want to graduate to better paid areas like sport, crime or politics, while Dutch science journalist are specialists.

Err... there\'s some errors there. Firstly, it is not a ban, only general-purpose lamps
are covered. Second, it was a Bush-signed law that started this process, and not
a Biden initiative at all. The timeline was cooked into the statute a decade or so
ago.
