Bench Light (Prehijacked) }:-)>

I brought this up before but it was in SER. Now I want the real gurus because I got a brand new plan. (kinda like Steve Earl - Copperhead Road, but I am not talking about THAT idea)

So I got one of them arm lights. I need about four of them but... Anyway, a while back I found that a CCFL bulb in there wreaked havoc on anything with gain. Seems like everything has gain.

So I replaced it with a halogen I had laying around. Normal socket conformant to the usual light bulb specifications. No more 35 KHz in everything. You should have seen what it did to scopes.

The problem now ? What am I yammering about ?

IT GETS TOO DAMN HOT !

So what I wonder now is just what do I have to put into a CCFL to get it to light ? I am willing to take one apart and rework it, and build a nice clean (EMI etc. wise) DC power supply for it.

Also remember I said I need like four ? So the next question is if I can use one power supply for multiple lights. Will that work or will they act like neons where only one of them in parallel wants to fire ? Or should I up the voltage and put them in series ? Would the load be balanced enough unit to unit for that to work ?

If I get something that really works hell I might start selling them. When I make the first hundred grand everybody here gets a 12 pack of beer. Or maybe the finest locally grown, grass fed filet mignon. Or maybe a couple of my special pork chops with rice. (usually it is BYOR - Bring Your Own Rice, I can't cook rice so I have to use the boil in the bag stuff, Ma tried to teach me how to cook it but I just don't get it, like when do I put in the 15 tablespoons of garlic powder ?)<not entirely true, I prefer to use fresh garlic and usually do...

Now, since I know this thread will be hijacked I might as well just do it now. You wanna go to Cuba or Libya or what ?

Anyway, I am not so sure resurrecting Thomas Edison would work though he was pretty fart smeller. Actually yes, he advocated that instead of borrowing the government should just print the money and take the losses, rather than be enslaved to interest payments.

The fucking liberals and their green shit. You know how hard it is to even find a bulb for my DBT ? These newcockfahglred fucks DO NOT WORK for that application.

Which brings us unfortunately for hijackers to a very related subject. The fucking green asshole liberals got it where sooner or later there will be no incandescent bulbs for sale at all.

I NEED a DBT. I work on high power audio and you NEED it. With the dynamic properties of the DBT it is perfect for amps. If nothing is shorted then the lamp is...dim. It loses almost no voltage on many amps at quiescence. See I am like, I mean I am THE person you want working on your mp and I am starting top get quite the reputation for it. My testing procedure is so fucking tough it has to be adjusted for each amp that crosses my bench. when I fix them the stay fixed. Let's put it this way, had an MCS in last week or so. threw in pair of outputs and all went well, OK. Thing is for this 25 WPC amp I put in MJ15023 and 15024. Seriously, the power transformer doesn't have the balls to blow those. The only, and I mean THE ONLY way to fuck them up is to get it up to a high temperature because as we all know everything needs to be derated on dissipation. You can have a transistor that can dissipate 200 watts, but what can they do at 170ÂşC ? It almost doesn't matter what transistor you got then.

It amazes me sometimes how much bullshit people go through to get output transistors. I KNOW what the ideal transistor is for almost any amp, and why. You want a good audio output, those MJs have a fairly flat HFE/Ic curve which is important for a high quality amp. Bandwidth is more than they'll ever ask.

Then for the flat pack I just go with 2SC5200 IIRC and its comp the (IIRC) 2SA1941. Also, and I ain't telling, I got a source for transistors like the 2SC2922. My source comes up with some hard to get ones, seems like some MF with money bought every semiconductor type ever made and sat on it for 30 years. The only ones I can't deal with by a retrofit are those Panasonic/Technics SVI type STK outputs. If I used normal techniques on those Technics they would not really be what they were anymore and that is not what I am selling.

Know what kinda scares me ? I have in a Flame Linear 400-2. Blown channel. It has been improperly serviced, the banks of outputs are totally mismatch in both channels and the client is going for changing them to a matched set in the working channel after I explained why I recommend it. But the scary part is IF the shorted outputs destroyed the current limiters - they are germanium. One day I might be in here asking how to adapt it to silicon. Look at the print and you can see it is easier said than done. It is the typical dual slope thing they got running off the Re s. But to meet the silicon threshold a bunch of circuit values have to be changed. Luckily though none of this affects the sound.

Many people LIKE the sound of their amp even if it isn't perfect. I understand. My bench receiver, bench - I mean I use it as a source for amps sometimes, or as a power amp for preamps, you might think of it s a simple utility. But I like the sound of it. It used to be a Pioneer SX-850. Been through hell, both a fire and a flood. Regulator board broken in three places. Also had a blown channel and the bias pot lit up so that is gone. And then in the preamp something happened and I never figured it out, partly because I didn't want to take the front of that apart. So I got a couple of 100K resistors to set the bias, it was clipped to the point of no sound. The glass in front is broken, the shaft for the tuning knob is bent. The regulator board will never be mounted again. I do not have the top or bottom covers. One metal sheath is off on of the switches, but I actually have one ! I just ain't putting it on this.

I got a problem with pictures on the net right now but I would gladly post a picture of this thing. You would say "What a piece of shit" until I turn it on. My real dilemma is that I want this stereo out in the garage AND down in the basement. And I need a PC with a good soundcard that will connect to the wifi so I got access to my media library. (there was a time I had a projection unit out there throwing at the one garage door, 3,500 lumens)

Now if that hijack wasn't enough...

You know I am almost ashamed to ask you guys shit. You are mostly so above me in knowledge of the subject I have very little to offer. I have come up with a couple things via omnidirectional thinking. (remember lateral thinking ? well this is that on steroids)

But then I could think of it a different way. You helping me is dues for having someone to call fucking stupid and crazy and all that shit. What - you thought that was free ?

So anyway, be well, have a good time in life. Find humor in life. I am mastering that. You put me in front of a TV I am NOT going to STFU. I mean some of the hapless folk I would never joke to their face because it would upset them and I have no reason to do that.

But without their presence... Take the show "My 600lb, Life". Here we got a broad who can't get out of bed even because she weighs 550 pounds. And gaining.

Now I am going to tell you one tenet of physics that people just do not apply to - - - whatever.

There is one FACT. When you are born you are what 8 pounds. Now you are maybe 200. Where the fuck did those 192 pounds come from ? Well your weight IS the EXACT amopunt that you ate, drank or got infused or the fuck whatever, subtract all you excrete, shit, piss sweat are the normal ways unless you are a cutter or some shit. (buddy of mine has a GF does that, she is moving out this month or next)

You could say, if you accept that mater is actually energy just formed right, then the law of conservation of energy applies to matter. That means you are what you eat, there is no fucking doubt.

Anyway I got into those shows a little with Ma, she is old and watches that and I don't mind spending a little time with her. I upped and said "What were these people thinking when they were 500 pounds, 400 pounds ?". I haven't pulled this one out on Ma yet but...hit that bong...

Now this broad can't get to the kitchen or anywhere. her boyfriend brings her five Big Macs and a few supersize fries. Now if he is connected to her and "loves" her, you know this is like giving an addict drugs. Overeating is one of the fucking hardest things to beat. Coke, booze, whatever, you can stop completely. (NEVER say "quit") You cannot stop eating.

LOL. Is this hijacked enough ? I wanna see somebody outdo it. This plane already landed and I got Castro on the phone. I go pick up my money tomorrow and luckily I got my gun. Can't fucking trust anyone in that kind of business. Yeah that few months of aerospace in school paid off. Only blew one tire landing and they got a spare !

Best hijack I ever had.

no surprise there :) Put paper on one it lights up quick.

They're discharge tubes. More i means lower V, so no way can you parallel them. But you could if each one had a series cap to limit it.

> The fucking liberals and their green shit. You know how hard it is to even find a bulb for my DBT ? These newcockfahglred fucks DO NOT WORK for that application.

A CFL needs low v ac to the filaments to get it going, then higher v lower i through the thing to light it. The change between the 2 modes is done with a cap, as the load increases the driver f falls. C is across the main arc so the filaments then get less i. Running v is around 35v.

Fluorescents must have ac, and in the case of CFLs hf ac, not 50/60Hz. They really don't suit your task. There is a horrible workaround rarely employed with linear fls: use a relay to change dc polarity each time they're turned on. I'm not sure CFL will handle dc.

Seriously, use LEDs on dc. Vastly simpler, more reliable too, no EMI.

Which brings us unfortunately for hijackers to a very related subject. The fucking green asshole liberals got it where sooner or later there will be no incandescent bulbs for sale at all.

I dunno what circuit you got there but changing from Ge to Si doesn't normally go well. Rebiasing etc does not solve the problems. Ges have a soft turn-on from 0v up, Si have a relatively hard fast turn on at around 0.6v, and typically the nfb can't handle the fast abrupt change well.

I had a car stereo like that once, awesome sound but looked like garbage. Some a-wipe broke in & nicked it.

Amazon has thousands of LED lights. Some of the LED goosenecks are
great for working on things.

I put a few LED strip lights on the underside of the lowest shelf on
my bench. With a dimmer. Works great.

And a couple of LED spots to illuminate my whiteboard.

Some people think you take one drink of a beer or one hit off a joint you are done for the day. That is not true. Whoever thinks that can go find someone about a third qualified as I and overpay them by a factor of three, for something I would have done RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM.

I had a client (they are not customers, they are clients) email me after he picked up something and dropped off another unit, said "I smelled that good shit in the top drawer of your filing cabinet". And that we would have to do some.

Since December I got about 30 clients, and out of them about 20 of them smoke pot.

If I ever get anywhere near buzzed I won't touch things and just do it tomorrow, but the fact is that YES, sometimes when I post here I am "impaired". That word cost me a court case in February 2018. Fine, the law is the law.

Fucking at least half the people in the US either smoke pot or don't care what others do. I have not yet fired up the vape or a joint with a client yet, but I have opened a beer.

(Some) drugs are perfectly legal in my jurisdiction. Yay freedom!

If you knew me better you would not "think" that. A buzz is something I like and I CAN function. I mean I could fix a TV RIGHT when I couldn't walk or even have a thought of driving a car.

Some people think you take one drink of a beer or one hit off a joint you are done for the day. That is not true. Whoever thinks that can go find someone about a third qualified as I and overpay them by a factor of three, for something I would have done RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM.

Nothing. No judgement. Their stuff is fixed right and at a good price. Bitch ? ABOUT WHAT ?

>You can't buy drugs on Amazon yet as far as I know.

Pisses me off the guy I used to work for got out of it. I could get ANYTHING. Broads, booze, drugs, whatever and I could convert my credit cards to cash no problem. I mean this was a GOOD job and I mean even better than working for the government.

I could have asked for an ounce of saffron. You got any idea how expensive that is ?

Under Obama I had to work for like $12 an hour or so. I now make over three times that, BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE FUCKING MONEY.

What do you think I am ? liberal who wants regulations to the point where they can't make VITAMIN PILLS here and now they come from China. Look it up.

It sounds like you sell weed tho. Weed is a popular product. People tend
to come up with the money to buy it no matter who is President.

My guess as to the reason you are making more now than then is because
you were not selling it then and it has little to do with politics.

yeah, but like he said "enjoy" it elsewhere
build a linear ballast if needed.

Indeed, I was a big spender and bought one of these in 2013:

Flexible Office Mini 28 LED USB Light For Computer Lamp Laptop PC Desk Reading
2$52

One should not plug those in an USB connector,
its weight will kill the connector,
so I modified things and fixed it to front PC with super glue:

It is still working, have it on most of the evening.
Glue to any heavy object, 5V DC, no interference..

After 7 years 2 LEDs died in it, makes little or no difference in light.
it is VERY bright, no way can you look into it.

Easily adjustable, great keyboard light too.

So I replaced it with a halogen I had laying around. Normal socket conformant to the usual light bulb specifications. No more 35 KHz in everything. You should have seen what it did to scopes.

The problem now ? What am I yammering about ?

IT GETS TOO DAMN HOT !

Any variant on a gas discharge (neon lamp, fluoresecent, etc.) has a negative resistance
region, and blackens on DC. So, you go through the turnon/turnoff abruptly several times
per cycle. It's a little gentler if you use the ~4 kHz electronic ballasts, but still gonna
interfere. Halogens HAVE to be hot; both the filament and the quartz envelope must
be hot for it to work right.

LEDs that run on quiet DC supplies are your best bet; you probably want to use a good
quiet power brick and get LEDs that have thermal and current regulators onboard
(like Ikea's JANSJO units). You can get the LED/regulator/heatspreader modules online

<https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2-watt-warm-white-LED-with-inbuilt-current-control-KTB-HLDL-06/2053370007.html>

if you want to build the lamps into some favorite fixture. At circa 3W, they're easy to cool.
Ideal supply voltage is about 4VDC, and the regulators are for (as I read the spec sheet)
700 mA (two 350mA current limiters in parallel).

A switch that's good enough for 120 VAC is flaky at 4VDC, but lamp cord is heavy enough wire.

So what I wonder now is just what do I have to put into a CCFL to get it to light ? I am willing to take one apart and rework it, and build a nice clean (EMI etc. wise) DC power supply for it.

Amazon has thousands of LED lights. Some of the LED goosenecks are
great for working on things.

I put a few LED strip lights on the underside of the lowest shelf on
my bench. With a dimmer. Works great.

And a couple of LED spots to illuminate my whiteboard.

I bought some of those... they had some internal switching supply.
(LED's modulated at ~30 kHz or something like that.)
I hacked in a current C-multipler and it works fine.

I did for a short time about 25 years ago, and then I TRIED to get a grow room growing and motherfucker cost me like $8K in utilities and all the plants turned out male. I fired my farmer but that didn't get my money back for all those bills.

I don't want to deal anything except my services. Drugs ? That is being a middleman, any fucking idiot can do that.
