bell project

Its for when a timer runs out and a relay turns off a light, I would
like a bell to ring at the same time. IT can either ring when one side
of the relay turns on or the other side turns off. It should be twelve
volts. Something other than a door bell, I've tried them and they
don't last more than a couple of months.

Just knowing about the part you suggested should do the trick. You
were a lot of help, it helped me typing it out to conceptualize...

If it's for the actual doors, just arrange a microswitch with some kind of
catwhisker to just close and open when the door opens and closes, like
they do at stores. You don't need an electronic solution at all, if it's
just for the doors. What you'd wind up with is a plain old ordinary run-

Except that it dings when the door opens and dongs when the door closes.

And once they're inside or outside the peepbooth, what difference does it
make what they're watching? Isn't customer confidentiality one of the
hallmarks of adult entertainment establishments?

As for counting bodies in the booth, I'd go for something
ultrasophisticated, like some kind of infrared sensor, but if you're going
to do that, it's only good business to post a warning.

Good morning. If you could be a little more descriptive, you might get a
better response.

I would guess from what you've said that you've got something like an
Intermatic light timer switching line voltage for the lights, and you want a
bell indication when the lights go off. You hooked up a bell transformer to
the other side of the switch, and that gives you the "binnng" of the doorbell
when the lights go off. If that's not it, try again with some more
information.

But if it is, you might want to ask yourself, "where's the 'bonnng?' " (no
humor, please) While bell transformers are made for continuous duty, the
solenoid driving the doorbell itself isn't. The thing is probably overheating
and eventually burning out, which is why you're getting poor results.

What you need to complete your project is called an interval timer. When power
is applied, the internal switch is closed for a preset interval, and then it
turns off by itself and stays off as long as power is on. If you're just
driving a bell transformer, you can get a small solid state interval timer and
mount it in the Intermatic box. They cost a lot less than the standard
interval timer relays, and are also smaller. The output can go to your bell
transformer and doorbell.

One good choice for this is McMaster-Carr P/N 7457K65, which is available for
$22.19 USD.

You'll also have to use a pot or fixed resistor to set the time delay. Ask for
the 0.5 to 5 second model. This way, you can go with what you've got.

Of course, that might not be what you've got at all.

I have a twelve volt power supply that is hooked up to a power strip
which is driven by a timer accumulator. When the timer runs out the
power strip goes dead turning off the power supply and a couple of
other things. The twelve volt power supply on the power strip is
hooked up to a relay that it switches on and off or... from one relay
to another.

On one side of the relay I have another power supply that has a "in
use" and a "vacant" light hooked up to one side. When the power strip
goes on the relay is switched and the "in use" light goes on, when the
power goes off the "vacant" light goes on.

Using the side with the bell hooked up I can either have the bell go
off when the circut is opened or closed.


A couple of problems with the door bell is that electro mechanical ones
burn out the magnet from being held on, with an electronic one if the
bell is held on for a while it rings off and on. Bells are also made
very cheaply and the ones that don't ring when held "on" just crap out
over time too.
I'm going to look into the part number you gave me, thanks.
