beginner's few problems

Hello everybody,

I'm starting with Cadence and experience some problems which probably are
already solved so please forgive me for repeating the questions. Here they
are:

1. I have installed NCSU_CDK.1.3 and although I have the following libs
installed in $CDS_DIR/local/lib:
basic NCSU_TechLib_tsmc02
NCSU_Sheets_8ths NCSU_TechLib_tsmc02d
NCSU_Digital_Parts NCSU_TechLib_ami06 NCSU_TechLib_tsmc03
MOSIS_Layout_Test NCSU_TechLib_ami16 NCSU_TechLib_tsmc03d
NCSU_Analog_Parts NCSU_TechLib_hp06 NCSU_TechLib_tsmc04_4M2P

under File -> New -> Library when I choose "attach to an existing library"
option I get only the NCSU_Tech* libs, what about the rest namely
NCSU_Analog_Parts? How can I make it appear on the list?

2. When I create a sample lib and try to compile it for local use from any
of the above (visible) libs I get the following error:
*WARNING* *Error* dbiPDDCreateContact: argument #5 should be a floating
point number (type template = "dgggffgfgfffxxffgg") - No object list
*WARNING* Devices: Technology file compilation failed!

How can I make use of the components from those above libraries localy on
my account (not root)?

Thank you in advance for your help.

It only shows those which are technology libraries. i.e. those which have a
technology file compiled in (techfile.cds). Other libraries are probably
attached to some existing technology library - if they are technology
independent, it may be attached to cdsDefTechLib.

You can check this by going to the library manager, selecting the
library name, and then middle-mouse->properties. techLibName will tell
you the name of the technology library for an existing library.

Why do you particularly need to attach to the technology for a parts library?
I'd have thought you want to attach to one of the TechLibs.
Note, I know nothing about any of these specific libraries...

Are you using a technology file to compile the library, or are you attaching to
one of the tech libs above? I've not seen this specific error before (a few
other mentions of this function, but not this specific error). Are you using a
Cadence IC version that is intended to be used with these libraries?

How can I make use of the components from those above libraries localy on
my account (not root)?
I don't understand the question. There's no need for you to be root to do any of
this.

Regards,

Andrew.

Thank you in advance for your help.
