Beginner Resources

Hello all!

I know all the high school and some undergraduate physics, but I've
never really gotten to learn electronics. Even though I've always
wanted to. Now I've got some time over and I have decided to learn at
least the basics.

To make you familiar with my aims I have set a few objectives (I'm
aware they might sound completely naive and unrealistic since I'm a
newbie, but anyway):
1. I want to know the basics and learn more advanced topics of circuit
cards,
2. I want to know how to be able to build electronic components that
can communicate with my PC,
3. and my final goal is to create some kind of simple PC-controlled
robot.

So my questions, in relation to my aims, to you guys are simply:
1. Are there any good online resources or books (I prefer both) you
can recommend?
2. Are there any good (and not too expensive) starter-kits you can
recommend?
3. Are there any good and cheap online electronic shops (btw, I live
in Sweden)?

Thanks for all answers and suggestions!

Peter

PS. I tried to find a FAQ for this group but couldn't find one. Is
there one?

You don't need anything you can't find used, or order as separate
components.

3. Are there any good and cheap online electronic shops (btw, I live

You may try http://www.elfa.se or http://www.farnell.se .
If you prefer swedish electronic shops, here are some more.

http://www.kjelloco.se/
http://www.svebry.se/
http://www.hth.com/
http://www.lawicel.com/

If you want to build robots, http://www.robotshop.se/ could be an interesting online store. They have some robotics starter-kits.
