Battery Meter

Anyone know where/if I can purchase a meter that I can connect across a 12
volt battery in a jet ski to let me know the state of charge.
Not the condition of the battery but if it has 12v, 9v, 7v or whatever in
it.

** A state of charge test needs more than a voltmeter.

What type of battery is it ? SLA, wet cell, Ni-Cd ??

What sort of battery is it? The voltage won't change anything like you've
just suggested, the battery will be long dead before getting to even 9V.
You
should be able to get a battery charge indicator from Repco or similar, or
a
water sports store if the jet-skis use something exotically unfamiliar to
the rest of the world.

Thanks for the reply Ken

Same sort of voltmeter you would add to a car or boat, but get the boat one
which is waterproof. You want to see an "expanded scale" from about
10 volts fully dead to
12 volts just ok to
14 volts charging / charged to
16 volts overcharging

To be sure the battery is ok, you want to test it "under load", so switch on
the headlight or whatever electrical thing you have to see what voltage is
there "under load" rather than "on standby".

Hope this helps,
Peter

If your battery is 12V, then you shouldn't take it below 11.6V, 11.4 at
the very least without damaging the battery and shortening its life.

Charging, 13.8V standard, 14.4V boost
