Is it possible for a car battery to hold a charge for less and less time as
it ages ?

I think cell phone , alarm , ni-cads , etc batteries do .

PS , the car battery is 10 years old . Do you think it is time to replace

19 years? Yikes! I think YOU may OWE the battery company something!
But in answer to your question, yes. As the plates get sulfated over it
loses its capacity.

As a lead acid battery ages, the place get warn away, and also develop
sulphide on them. A well maintained lead acid battery can last about 3 to 5
years average, depending on the way it is used, and the type of
environmental exposure it gets.
