basic battery chargers & modern cars

Googled for a while on this without getting a clear answer. What's the
situation with basic battery chargers, ie. a tranny and a bridge, and modern
cars that are full of electronics. How great is the risk of damage to the
vehicle, and what sort of peak current is likely to be OK?

** That might be because you do not have a clear question.

What's the situation with basic battery chargers, ie. a tranny and a
bridge,
** Now, that might mean trickle chargers with less than 4 amps *average DC*
output OR it might not.

and modern cars that are full of electronics.
** Err - you cannot safely use a basic charger with bad battery ?

How great is the risk of damage to the vehicle, and what sort of peak
current is likely to be OK?
** Ask your actual question - FFS !!!!!!

Instead of pissing us about with vague questions to which only vague answers
are possible.

OR are you deliberately being a TROLL ??

The worst scenario is probably where the battery is not flat, but has
gone open circuit. Then you'll be putting whatever horrible waveform the
charger produces onto the vehicle electronics.

The short answer is don't charge batteries while they're in circuit.
