Ball bearings

Got a job on the bench, where the customer has managed to lose some
critical parts for his turntable. I need some ball bearings
approximately 1.5mm in size (the absolute diameter is not super
critical. Say: 1.3mm ~ 1.8mm would be fine).

Any ideas?

Bicycle parts? Caveat, I've never run the micrometer over then but I
double if any would be that small.
Bearings from old printer plattens might break down to give you some.

This guy is selling 2mm ones

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Pk100-2mm-Steel-Balls-Bearings-/230512158367?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item35ab98669f

I bought some very small ones from a guy on Pennant hills road, but it
was some years back and I have no idea of the name of the company.

Are bearing in an old HDD ball or roller. I'd guess ball.

Best go to a bearing shop. Not sure where you are so can't suggest a
shop though. They should surely be able to look some suitable bearings
up if you take some of the originals in.

The guys at http://www.smallparts.com.au came to my attention some time ago,
but I have never actually purchased anything from them.

They list a huge range of balls made of various materials down to sizes way
smaller than 1.5mm, but from my quick look it may be a case of "How many
thousand, or kg of them do you want?".

Still might be worth a try.

I have, a few years ago when I needed a replacement belt for my HP pen
plotter. Very help full and came through. I was trying to think of them
when the other small place was posted.

Interesting - I turned them up when I was looking for a belt for my (non-HP)
plotter. In the end I got the belt elsewhere.
